The luxury SUV model from Chevrolet, Suburban was first introduced in the model year 1935. The first model was offered as station wagon form and it has been one of the most profitable vehicles for General Motors.
First Generation (1933-1940)
The first model released in 1933 was constructed using wood and it had the seating capacity of 8-passengers. It was offered in station wagon body style. It was mainly intended for civilian conservation corps and National Guard units.
Second Generation (1941-1947)
The second generation Chevrolet Suburban model was also a two-door wagon car, built on the FR layout. It also had the seating capacity to accommodate up to 8-passengers.
Available engines to the model were 3.5 liter I-6 and 3.7 liter I-6. It was slightly modified in 1942 and in 1946.
Third Generation (1960-1966)
The third generation Chevrolet Suburban model was also called as GMC Carryall. It was also a two-door SUV model offered in either four wheel drive or in rear wheel drive. The standard engine to the model include 5.0 liter V6 version.
Fourth Generation (1973-1991)
The fourth generation Chevrolet Suburban was also called as Chevrolet Veraneio in Brazil. It was a four-door sport utility vehicle. It was offered in either four wheel drive or in rear wheel drive.
Available engines to the model were 4.0 liter straight-4, 5.7 liter V8, and 6.2 liter V8 versions. It also offered four various gasoline engines. Available transmissions to the engines include 3-speed and 4-speed automatic, 3-speed low range manual and 5-speed manual transmission.
As far as the exterior dimensions of the model are concerned, it had the wheel base of 129.5 inches, length of 219.1 inches, width of 79.6 inches and height of 72.0 inches. The Chevrolet Suburban model was related to Chevrolet C/K and Chevrolet K-Blazer models.
Fifth Generation (1992-1999)
The fifth generation Chevrolet Suburban model was also called as Holden Suburban. It was slightly redesigned in 1992, gaining more powerful engine and few added features. It was a 4-door SUV model offered in either four-wheel drive or in rear wheel drive.
Sixth Generation (2000-2006)
The Chevrolet Suburban model released in this generation was also called as GMC Yukon XL. It was designed and produced based on GMT800 platform. It was related to Cadillac Escalade, Hummer H2, Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet Avalanche models.
Seventh Generation (2007-Present)
The present Chevrolet Suburban model is designed and produced based on GMT900 platform. It is a 4-door SUV model offered in either four-wheel drive or in rear wheel drive.
Available engines to the model include 5.3 liter Vortec V8, 6.2 liter Vortec V8 and 6.0 liter Vortec V8. Transmissions offered include 4-speed and 6-speed automatic.
